Spring Trend - D'Orsay Skimmers

Before this year, I was morally opposed to pointed-toe flats (and white pumps, but more on that another day). I thought they made feet look comically long and flat, were outdated and kinda sorta try-hardy. Needless to say, I have pretty harsh style rules for myself that may come across as judgmental, but I'd rather say I have a discerning eye for fashion. I've always been a bit cutthroat when it comes to selecting clothes--I have vivid memories of hours-long shopping trips with my exhausted mom and coming home empty handed ("That heel isn't the perfect height," "Spaghetti straps are so last season," "That waistline is all wrong.").

Lip Colors for Spring

I must share a deep, dark secret that I am ashamed to admit: I don't like color. I try to wear a coral hue here and a pop of fuchsia there, but I subscribe to the less-to-none-is-more philosophy when it comes to bright, punchy colors. One of my favorite fashion quotes that I found on Pinterest a little bit ago is, "A variety of colors is a sin against good taste in the sartorial sphere of a well-dressed woman." Can't say I disagree.

Tasty Tuesdays - Homemade Cadbury Creme Eggs

Why is it that, when I'm at the end of my rope, exhausted and ready to just crawl into bed and escape to the Land of Nod, I decide to tackle an ambitious Easter treat? It's all for you, party people. You need this right now. And I must give it to you. Note: please forgive the suckiness of the photos. It was pretty late into the p.m. hours and I had to rely on incandescent lighting to illuminate my process. Not the best idea.

In anticipation of Easter Sunday, I wanted to try a new recipe that screamed childhood and tradition. The Cadbury Creme Egg is such a seasonal staple that it's hard to imagine spring passing by without indulging in the gooey goodness that exists within a crunchy chocolate shell. Just a word of warning: this recipe is not for the slow and lazy. I was surprised at how quickly a ball of sugar and butter melts in a warm palm :-|. Work fast and freeze after every step. It melted so fast, I couldn't even take photos of some of the steps! I hope you all try this simple-yet-sometimes-frustrating recipe. They taste pretty darned close to the real thing and are a great treat to hide in a kid's (or adult's) Easter basket.

How to Wear: White Denim for Night

{Zara peplum top | Zara white jeans | Shoemint "Shiva" heels | Gigi NY All-In-One bag | OPI "Jade is the New Black"}

One of the many perks of living in a perpetually warm and sunny climate is that most cuts, colors and trends are evergreen. No need to completely refresh your wardrobe when the temperatures drop, because they really don't drop too drastically. Enter white denim, a new staple that has had a special place in my heart all week (see my chambray daytime look here). For dressier occasions, white denim can be paired with anything from a punchy, printed top to my surprising new favorite: peplum. Paired with simple strappy sandals, you have a look that is so on trend this season. Try a monochromatic look with a winter white sweater or blouse and brightly colored wedges for a pop of color!

I punched up my black-and-white ensemble with one of the best giveaways I've won by far! Remember when I asked for help choosing which color Gigi New York All-In-One bag I should pick? I decided on the indigo! Such a rich color that really complements any outfit. Thanks, again, Nikki + Gigi New York! I'm in love with my new bag!

Getting silly!

How To Wear: White Denim for Day

{Gap chambray top | Zara white jeans | Matt Bernson Chilmark sandals | Michael Kors Runway rose gold watch | Zara belt | OPI "Jade is the New Black"}

Isn't it funny how some girls are on the same page when it comes to personal style? You may not dress alike and have totally different fashion philosophies, but maintain a common sartorial love that keeps you connected. When talking to a friend about spring trends, we both agreed that white denim is the hottest thing this season. I scored these white Zara denim pants a few weeks ago and have been a bit reluctant to wear them due to my propensity for clumsiness. After my recent foray into outfit posts, I thought it would only be appropriate to show you how versatile this crisp, classic wardrobe staple can actually be.

This week I'll be showing you two ways to wear white denim: one casual look (seen here with my favorite chambray button-down) and another, more dressy ensemble that I'll post Wednesday. How do you style white denim? Do you dress it up or down?

Spring Forward - First Outfit Post!

 {Zara sweater | Zara skirt | Shoemint "Garbo" heels | H&M clutch}

Yes, you read correctly: this is my first outfit post! For my first, I wanted to put together an ensemble that really represented my regular, personal style--feminine, edgy and relaxed. No muss, no fuss, just my favorite neutrals: black, white and, yes, oxblood, the new neutral. I hope to make this a regular thing and want to know what you all think! Now that I've formally introduced my personal style on my blog, I plan on making a few more changes around here. Can't wait to share some news very soon!

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Start your week right by following La Petite Gigi on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (links at right)!

Apres Weekend

Macaron trinket boxes

This weekend really seemed like it flew by, didn't it? I feel like it was just Friday night after work, when I was holed up in my living room with Thai takeout for one and getting caught up on my magazines and TV shows. After another hectic week, it was the perfect antidote for my shot nerves. You know what else is a great way to end the week? Dinner with friends, a day spent shopping and an afternoon consumed with my attempt at nail art. I'm pretty sure I scarfed down possibly the best bread pudding I've ever had at Stout Burgers & Beer in Studio City (really, though, what was in that thing?!) and occupied most of my Sunday in between the racks at Zara and redecorating my nightstand. The perfect way to wind down was spending a couple hours concentrating on the shimmery gold half-moons that now adorn my dusty rose tinted fingertips. How was your weekend?

Yummy pad thai and mango/sticky rice!

Saturday Style Envy - Kourtney Kardashian Striped Shorts Suit

When compared with the personal styles of her sisters Kim and Khloe, Kourtney Kardashian's dedication to classic, vintage and risk-taking options wins in my book. Though most celebrities have stylists who curate their daily looks and even help develop their personal styles (Monica Rose, holla!), I appreciate those starlets whose own preferences shine through. When I spotted Kourtney in this super sophisticated striped blazer and shorts ensemble by BCBG, I practically swooned. My love for black-and-white stripes made this look a no-brainer for me, and when I spotted those BEYOND Tom Ford lace-up heart nearly stopped. The shorts suit in a fresh print and the mini bun perched atop her head are super modern and polished. The crisp, white button-down shirt and vintage details (Chanel medallion necklace) plus a pop of color give this a timeless feel. And look at that post-baby bod! In love! Be sure to check out past Saturday Style Envy features here, here and here!

Help Me Decide: Gigi New York All in One Bag

Ladies, I need your help. The gorgeous Nikki of Bedazzles After Dark graciously gave away one of these beautiful All in One Bags by Gigi New York. And I won. Gigi to Gigi? I call that serendipity. But, here's my problem: I can't decide which color to choose! I'm leaning towards the indigo, because I have zero blue in my closet and because it would be a great, rich hue to brighten up my mostly neutral wardrobe. I also love the white for its 80s vibe and clean look. I already have two black evening bags/clutches, so my practicality squashed my propensity for that color. What say you? I promise to do an outfit post with my choice soon!
