Thursty Thursdays - The Widow's Touch

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, probably because it gives me an excuse to wear whatever costume I want and not be judged, but mostly because it's the day before my birthday. This year I will keep it low-key and probably head to an amusement park for some horror-filled fun with a few of my closest friends. Now, if I could only find a costume..

I often fantasize about having my own place to entertain my nearest and dearest, especially during the holidays when it's so much fun to decorate and serve themed food and drinks. Like this Widow's Touch cocktail that could very well be named "Witch's Brew." It melds warm, sweet, autumnal flavors with a touch of tartness that is every bit sophisticated as it is wicked. Just don't knock on my door, torches in hand, when it brings out the evil in you. Happy Halloween!

First Look: Versace x H&M Lookbook

Dress, $127; Printed leggings, $40

It's finally here! I woke up to this great news and couldn't wait to share it with all of my budget fashionistas! I also want to shout out a resounding, "The 90s are back!" And who better to show off the most highly-anticipated high/street collaboration than top model Abbey Lee Kershaw?

The bold prints and sizzling silhouettes that we now look back on as being classic, quintessential Versace have been rehashed and remastered into modern pieces that will make a huge impact on street fashion. Vintage Versace was all about making a bold statement with graphic animal prints, strategic cut-outs, and racy necklines. It's like Gianni told Donatella to stop what she was doing and kick it old school. His spirit is incorporated into this collaboration's use of the brand's distinctive lion's head logo and Greek key detailing that is unmistakably Versace.

L-R: Leopard print dress, $112; Yellow silk studded dress, $207; Pink silk studded dress, $207

L-R: Slashed shoulder dress, $127; Criss-cross strap dress, $126; Lamé dress, $237

L-R: Top, $63, Skirt, $112, Jacket, $240; Printed bustier, $112, Printed pants, $64; Leather studded dress, $287
The accessories are also a nod to collections past.

So, what do you think of this latest budget-friendly collab? Which pieces will you be rocking this fall? The line launches in H&M stores November 17. Don't miss it!

Style Inspiration - Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie will forever be my fashion inspiration. Even her simplest outfits scream stylish. There is just something about her relaxed attitude and approach to fashion that really resonates with me. We did grow up in the same town, after all.

{Daily Mail}

After seeing her super simple day-to-afternoon transformation on the Daily Mail, I am convinced that she is the ultimate style maven. There is nothing particularly groundbreaking about these two outfits, and one is merely an interpretation of the other, but only a true fashionista can grasp the less-is-more philosophy and make it work like she does. What do you think of Nicole's two looks?

Thursty Thursdays - Pear and Vanilla Cocktail

It's not really clear why pears have the ability evoke the crispness of fall flavors and, at the same time, the warmth of summer. Add a bit of spice and the juicy fruit becomes a holiday cocktail. A bit of ice, a refreshing slushie.

This vanilla-pear cocktail combines both tastes and textures, and is a great complement to the fast-approaching autumn months. Here in LA, it's a bit difficult to tell what season it actually is. Triple digit degrees in October? This girl needs an ice-cold cocktail fast!

Vanilla, Pear, and Vodka Cocktail

  • 12 oz (1.5 cups) pear juice (freshly pureed pear may also be used)
  • 6 oz vodka
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
  • vanilla sugar, for rim
  • 1 cup ice, plus more to serve over
Mix pear juice and vodka in a pitcher or shaker. Split open the vanilla bean and scrape the seeds into the juice and vodka. Add 1 cup ice, then give it a good shake. Pour into cocktail glasses over more ice and serve with sugared (you can use vanilla sugar) rim. Makes 4 drinks.

Post-Summer Vacation + What I ate

After the week I had, it was so nice to get away for a few days, even though it was short. Oceanside is somewhere my family has been going for years, ever since I was a little girl in awe of the white wooden gazebo on the edge of the cliff where our little inn was perched, and how the white waves would crash on the rocks in the bay. It really is a surreal place to go, relax, and forget about the hustle and bustle of LA. My sister and I had a great time just lounging, kayaking, and EATING! Here are a few snaps from our trip!

Not a shabby morning view

Style Sisters - LC + LB

I know it's not Saturday yet, but I am in complete envy of the style in this photo! Laurens Conrad and Bosworth are wearing my favorite colors shades in perfect harmony at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, pairing their looks with laid-back ease. And do I spy coupe champagne glasses? Tres chic! I'm in love with LC's filmy blouse and linen shorts that are anchored by the black wedges that scream, "It's almost fall!" Lauren Bosworth's equally post-summer-perfect outfit blends some of the enduring trends from last season--the sheer midi/maxi skirt. I can say, that after a fleeting moment chatting with Lauren Conrad at an event a few months ago, coupled with my previously established style envy of her, I feel like we're BFFs. Ok, maybe it's more of a style stalker/stalkee relationship...

This past weekend, my sister (style and otherwise) and I took a road trip to Oceanside, where my parents have a timeshare. The weather was PERFECT, and we were able to get a little kayaking and much needed wining and dining in. Photos to come this week!
